Barnett Martin Obituary

Mr. Barnett M. Martin, affectionally known as Uncle B, peacefully departed this life at the age of 82 on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Spartanburg Regional Hospital in Spartanburg, SC.  Barnett was born November 11, 1938 in Bordeaux, SC located in McCormick County.  He was the 8th child of sixteen born to the late Albert Martin and Bessie Parker Martin.  Barnett received his education at Mims High School in McCormick, SC and later moved to Buffalo, NY where he was employed at Republic Steel.

On July 24, 1959, Barnett married the lovely Mrs. Thelma Durham Martin and from that union they had three children: Brenda Martin of Buffalo, NY; Tonya Martin Jackson of Spartanburg, SC; and Rodney Martin of Buffalo, NY.  In 1971, he dedicated his life and became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.   After 30 years on his job, Barnett retired and relocated back to South Carolina to the City of Spartanburg.

Barnett was preceded in death by eight brothers, Robert Lee Martin, W.T. Martin, John Lester Martin, Milledge Martin, Woodrow Martin, Leon Martin, Frank Martin and Edward Martin; one sister, Martha Weatherly; and one son-in-law, Paul Duane Jackson.

In addition to his loving wife and children, Barnett leaves to cherish his memories:  Two sisters, Addie Scott of Cincinnati, OH and Georgette (Josh) Wiggleton of McCormick, SC; four brothers, Homer Martin of Cleveland, OH, Andrew Martin of Indianapolis, IN, Albert Douglas Martin of Oldsmar, FL, and Wallace (Lillian) Martin of Greenwood, SC; eight grandchildren, Stephanie (Antoine) Jackson-Lowery, Nikea Jackson, Steffon (Dora) Jackson, and Derek Green all of Spartanburg, SC, Desmond Carswell of Washington, DC, Tiffany Harris and Rodney Martin, Jr both of Buffalo, NY, and Brittany Dingle of Atlanta, GA; fourteen great-grandchildren, Jalen Jackson, Jaden Lowery, Jordynn Lowery, Braylen Green, Destiny Harris, Eric Harris, Isaiah Harris, Ayden Harris, A’majae Hammonds, Syn’cere Hammonds, Emmari’Elle Humphrey, Kenaja Epps, Murphy Epps and Alivia Hoey; five sister-in-laws, Martha Martin of McCormick, SC, Lee Martin of Greenville, SC, Bessie Martin, Beaulah Martin and Tosca Martin all of Buffalo, NY; one brother-in-law, Jerry Weatherly of Jacksonville, FL; a host of nieces, nephews cousins and other relatives; friends; and a multitude of spiritual brothers and sisters that will miss him dearly.
