James Stokes Obituary

Mr. James Arthur Stokes, 69, widow of Frances L. Stokes, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 13, 2020. Born January 18, 1951 in Louisburg, NC, he was the son of the late David Morris Stokes and Mary Arrington Stokes. James loved old school cars, fishing, watching wrestling and listening to gospel music. He was a member and Deacon at Green Bethel Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by two brothers, Morris Stokes and David Holder; and five sisters, Mary Stokes, Elsie Stokes, Bertha Alston, Dorothy Person and Elaine Thomas.

James is survived by two daughters, Nina (Fred) Lowery of Duncan, SC and Jameka (Ronardo) Anderson of Plainfield, NJ; three stepdaughters, Minister Sherry Johnson, Minister Lillie Diane Bryant and Pastor Terrell (Cathaya) Jones all of Spartanburg, SC; two stepsons, Molefi Askari of Greenville, SC and Pastor Tony (Teresa) Hardy of Lawrenceville, GA; two sisters, Claudia Annette (Nicholas) Diaz of Lynn, MA, Olla Beatrice Tucker, of Baltimore MD; one brother Jerry (Denise) Thomas; three grandsons, Hassan Anderson of Plainfield NJ, Freddie Lowery of Duncan, SC and Jah’quan Anderson of Plainfield, NJ; one granddaughter, Meeyah Anderson of Plainfield, NJ; a niece who was like a daughter to him, Edna Alston of Louisburg, NC; and a host of very special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

I want to thank the staff at Greer Rehabilitation Healthcare Center. Thank you for treating my dad with respect as if he was your own family members. My dad as well as my family was very touched and pleased with the care that was rendered to him. My dad had his favorites but loved all of the staff he came in contact with. My family and I applaud the staff who cared for him. We would also like to say thank you to the wonderful staff at Carolina Dialysis. May God bless you all for the love you gave.
