Reverend Dr. Charlie Rodgers

Reverend Dr. Charlie Rodgers, 68, entered eternal rest Friday, January 8, 2021 at Spartanburg Medical Center, Spartanburg, SC. He was one of eight children born to Mrs. Pearl Giles Rogers and the late Mr. Leroy Rogers Sr. of Roebuck, South Carolina. Dr. Rodgers was educated in the Spartanburg County School System and continued his education at Spartanburg Methodist College. He received a Bachelors of Ministry Degree from Columbia Bible College in South Carolina and Masters of Ministry Degree from Virginia Southern Seminary. He later received his Doctorate of Pastoral Counseling Degree from Andersonville Baptist Seminary.

Dr. Rodgers was called into the ministry and licensed to preach the Gospel in 1977 at the Brooklyn CME Methodist Church. He was licensed at Foster Chapel Baptist Church in 1980 and ordained in 1981. Dr. Rodgers was called to pastor Woodson Chapel Baptist Church in Union, SC in 1982, where he served as pastor for approximately six years. In 1990, he was called to pastor Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Enoree, SC. In 1994, Dr. Rodgers was called to Pastor Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Anderson, SC. Under his Ministry at Cedar Grove Baptist Church and Salem Missionary Baptist Church, Dr. Rodgers licensed seven ministers. He also ordained several individuals to the Deacon Ministry and called others to the Trustee Ministry. Dr. Rodgers served as Second Vice Moderator of Union #1, Rocky River Association YMCA Youth Counselor, and served as the former Vice President of the Congress of Christian Education. He was a member of the Anderson Area Medical Center Division of Family Service and the Tyger River Association. Dr. Rodgers retired from Salem Missionary Baptist Church in 2011 and became a member of Harrison Grove Baptist Church in Roebuck, SC under the leadership of Reverend Alan Rector, Senior Pastor.

In addition to his father, Dr. Rodgers was preceded in death by one brother, Willie James Rogers; and previous wife and mother of his two children, Georgia Martin Rodgers.

Dr. Rodgers leaves to cherish fond and loving memories to his mother, Pearl and loving wife of seven years, Mrs. Jeanette Robinson Rodgers, both of the home; two children, Adrian (Pam) Rodgers and Tameshia (Antwan) Artison both of Spartanburg, SC; several grandchildren and great-granchildren; three brothers, Leroy (Sue) Rogers, Jr. of, Spartanburg, South Carolina, Robert (Tammy) Rogers, and Thomas (Theresa) Rogers both of Moore, SC; three sisters, Ida Pearl Glover and Hazel (Rev. Bernard) Morman both of Roebuck, SC, and Betty Mae Harris of Moore, SC; one father-in-law, J.B. Beard of Stone Mountain, GA; six sister in-laws, Deborah Rogers of Spartanburg, SC, Marie Anderson of McCormick, SC, Geneva Patterson of Hodges, SC, Marilyn (Danny) McGuire and Bettye Beard both of Stone Mountain, GA, and Brenda Simon of Atlanta, GA; two brother-in-laws, Bernard Beard of Atlanta, GA and Bobby (Vera) Johnson of Augusta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other loving relatives, and dear friends.
